Lead Maintenance / Custodian – Wright Technical Center
General Definition of Work:
Provides oversight for the custodians and performs intermediate manual work cleaning and caring for school buildings and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Principal and Executive Director.

Essential Job Duties:

Plans, coordinates, oversees and supervises the work of employees engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of the school district facilities.

Meets and confers regularly with custodial staff.

Directs the ordering, procurement and delivery of custodial products, chemicals and supplies.

Ensures that sufficient and appropriate custodial staff is available.

Mops, scrubs. sweeps, vacuums, buffs, strips, waxes and dust mops assigned areas.

Removes trash from rooms and buildings and puts it in containers and dumpsters.

Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks, etc.; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers; disinfects as needed.

Dusts furniture, walls, window sills and other woodwork.

Washes windows, walls and woodwork.

Moves furniture as required; sets up and organizes rooms for activities.

Secures windows and classroom doors daily and checks alarms.

Lead the custodial response during inclement weather (snow removal, salting walkways, etc.)

Conduct regular walk-throughs to ensure all areas of the building meet district health, safety and aesthetic standards.

Monitor HVAC systems and plumbing for issues; perform minor repairs (e.g., replacing light bulbs, tightening hardware) and submit work orders for complex repairs.

Repairs equipment, classroom materials, light bulbs, paper towel and bathroom assemblies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; general skill operating cleaning and maintenance equipment and materials; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read; ability to display thoroughness and cleanliness while maintaining appropriate workload; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and third party contractors.

- Wage: Based on experience, ranging from $20.28 - $25.18 per hour.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work has no physical activity requirements; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements:
Chemical safety, SDS or cleaning training or experience preferred.
Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
